This project involves creating a website comprised of the following linked web pages pertaining to the author of choice:
  1. An index page with links to the other three pages
  2. A links page with three to six links to other web resources about this author
  3. Two additional pages based on the following four choices:
    • biographical history of the author (page to be called 'biography')
    • books the author has written (page to be called 'books')
    • a summary of one book you have read by this author (page to be called 'summary')
    • an opinion composition on why you would recommend this author to other people (page to be called 'opinion'

STEPS TO FOLLOW IN COMPLETING THIS PROJECT:
  1. Print off the contract and checklist for this project. Fill in and sign the contract and hand it in to your teacher. Keep the checklist in you language arts duotang or another place where you will not lose it and can access it every day of the project.
  2. Find a computer in the lab where you will work on this project each time. On the desktop, create a folder. Name this folder your initials plus the author's last name, all in lower case. For example, if you do your author study on Lois Lowry and your name is Joe Blow, name the folder jblowry.
  3. Open Microsoft Word® and immediately go to 'File' --> 'Save as HTML', and save your index file in your folder. Repeat this step with your 3 other web pages.
  4. Follow the remaining steps on your checklist.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN CREATING WEB PAGES:
  • Make sure that you create links to every page on each of your web pages.
  • Use interesting and appropriate graphics and pictures on your web pages, and save these pictures in your folder.
  • Avoid backgrounds, unusual fonts and font colors that make your information hard to read.
  • Do not underline any text, as only links are to be underlined on web pages.
  • Think carefully how to organize the pictures, text, and links on your pages.
  • Notice how other professional web pages are set up and try to set yours up in the same way.
  • Pictures of most authors' book covers can be found on the Internet.

CRITERIA FOR MARKING:
  • Content - how interesting and detailed is your information, and is it written in clear, complete sentences? Do you include pictures or graphics?
  • Organization - are all 4 web pages complete with links to every page? Is each page organized in an appropriate, easy-to-read manner? Do your text colors, text fonts and sizes, and your backgrounds make your information easy to read?
  • Mechanics - do you use appropriate spelling, punctuation, and capitalization? Are links only underlined? Are links between pages and to other websites accurate?
